Wake up quicker with Autoruns

You start your computer to show friends that great picture you've been bragging about for ages, unfortunatley for you the startup takes ages, your friends get bored move onto other things, leaving you with a pc that is still starting and social shame.

Okay so you have probably checked the start up menu in the Programs menu, nothing there? So what is slowing your computer down, you may have even tried CCleaner that I discuss in my email letter, still nothing there.

Now the great news, the solution that I recommend won't cost you a penny, wont trash your machine (unless you try really hard) and is from a trusted source - Microsoft Technet.

The solution is called Autoruns for Windows.

Why is this so special? This program checks all the corners of your system to locate any program that has a mind to start in the background.

Once installed I would recommend that you hide all signed Microsoft entries, this will reduce the clutter. Another thing to remember is that if you use a program from the right click drop down menu, then if you disable it here then it will disappear from this menu.

Example I use 7Zip for compressed file extraction, If I disable its entries starting then I cannot unpack a shrunk file, therefore look for the obscure programs that you can start normally.

I use this once a week as part of my system health check and have been using it for months without problem.
